Come and enhance your student's educational experience with our unique programmes and activities.

As your students explore the Museum with our knowledgeable guides they will be immersed in the fascinating story of the individuals and families, the conflicts and enterprises that shaped the history of the Missisquoi County over the past 200 years.

PROGRAMMES

"Discovering the Museum"

Cycle 1 to Secondary One

Available in June, September and October, students can become acquainted with the museum through gallery exploration, games and a related craft. This program changes on a yearly basis as it incorporates current exhibits.

"Adopt a Heritage Child"

2nd & 3rd cycles to Secondary one

Cemeteries are a great teaching tool. They are historical treasure troves of information.

This programme focuses on growing up in the Eastern Townships in the early 19th century through cemetery studies.

Students will visit a local Heritage cemetery along with a Museum guide and adopt a child's tombstone.They will learn about gravestone images, mourning customs and early 19th century illnesses and what daily life was like for a child growing up in Missisquoi County.

"Curator for the Day"

2nd & 3rd cycle, Secondary one

Students will experience what it is like to be a museum curator by creating a display using artifacts from the Museums' collection.

"Click!......at first sight"

2nd, 3rd cycle and Secondary one

Every picture tells a story.

Your students will discover the history of the photographic process through a guided tour of the Museums' collection. Students will learn how to interpret photographs and finish the tour in our very own portrait studio where they can dress up in authentic 19th century fashions and sit for their very own portrait.

"Museum in your room"

Primary to Secondary One

A programme filled with activities that will offer your students a first class ticket back into time right in your own classroom. Discover the fascinating history of the first settlers and what it was like growing up in the early 19th century.

Note to Teachers:

All of our programming is developed in accordance with Quebec's curriculum guidelines.

Every activity can be adapted according to the age group or the amount of time available. We are always happy to work with teachers to create or to customize a programme specifically for their group.

Accessible all year, the "Museum in your room" programme objective is to transport the Missisquoi Museum to your classroom.
